Culture and Tourism in Kasese.

Cultural tours in Kasese are not as popular as visiting Elephants in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the game drives. This shouldn’t be the case because Kasese has so much to offer beyond wildlife.

In the past years, Kasese has been commonly known for WILDLIFE and mining tourism despite the cultural potential the district has to give the visitors a memorable experience of cultural Tourism.

However, the tourism sector has bounced back with a greater vision to reposition the district as the most preferred tourism destination in Uganda, unpacking all the potentials in the district.

This is highlighted in the tourism events taking place in the district  including the Rwenzori Theluji Festival led by Kasese Tourism Forum- KTIF that was gazetted in 2022 as an annual event to take place in the district and pitches Kasese as the most preferred tourism destination.

This just followed the Rwenzori Tuskerlite Marathon, that attracted visitors from 32 countries in the world to come and celebrate tourism in Kasese.

On the tourism development agenda of the district , Cultural tourism takes preference as a potential to develop to boost tourism in the district.

Yesterday, all cultures in the district exhibited their uniqueness at the Rwenzori square under the Rwenzori Theluji Festival for people of Kasese and the visitors to appreciate the uniqueness of their ways of life.

The cultures that exhibited included the Busongora culture, Bagabo, Bakingwe , Banyabindi and Obusinga Bwa Rwenzuru.

Giving cultures a platform to tell their unique stories was a way of raising awareness of the beautiful stories that lie behind the scenes that the visitors of  Kasese and Rwenzori at large really need to experience.

This  also was an opportunity to tell the story of peace as the district looks forward to hosting the World Tourism Day under the theme, ” Peace and Tourism” .

Kasese has the most beautiful cultural story to tell as it hosts about 98% of the tribes in Uganda and therefore if any visitor wants to meet Uganda in just one place, only Kasese will offer that golden opportunity.

The end.
